Stay in the hotel in full board. In the morning visit of the city, great religious center. Annually Lourdes is visited by millions of pilgrims and sick people because of the apparitions: On February 11, 1858, Bernadette Soubirous, 14, daughter of the miller of the village, had a vision of the Virgin, which occurred to her in the grotto of Massabielle; the vision was repeated 18 times. After the first apparition, the first miracles began to take place. Then visit the Sanctuary. with three overlapping Churches (the Crypt, the Basilica of the Rosary and the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception) and the underground Basilica (with capacity for 20,000 people). Some of the most important points are:
– The Parish Church, on the top of the village - The Church, today, still preserves the baptismal font. It was on these font that Bernardette was baptized on January 9, 1844. For Christians, a pilgrimage is one of the ways to reinvigorate their baptism.
- In the “Cachot”, Rue des Petits-Fossés - This was where the Soubirous family lived in 1858. Here he lived because he was poor. Here we will think of Mary singing in her Magnificat: He elevates the humble “. We will think of Jesus, the Son of Man who “had no place to lay his head.” We will think of the beatitudes, “Blessed are the pure in heart: for theirs shall be the kingdom of heaven.”
– In the cave - We will enter through the door of Saint-Mihcel, at the bottom of Boulevard de la Grotte. The door was specially decorated for the Jubilee Year. There we will find the advice we need. When entering, we will see the Basilica just in front of us. The 200 meters of esplanade will give us time to prepare ourselfs. To the right of the basilica, we will pass under the arcades. An image of Christ is under each arch; if we wish, we can embrace it. The cave, itself, is a place of excellence for recollection and praying.
– In the old hospice, present hospital - It was in the chapel of the hospices that Bernardette made his first communion, on June 3, 1858, before the last apparition. The course of the Jubilee can not end in the Grotto; Mary leads us to Jesus. The destiny of the Christian way is the Eucharist. Return to hotel. Time to rest and have dinner. In the evening we can watch the procession of candles that take place at the Grotto every day.
